A sensual and intimate portrait of a young marriage. Focusing on an artistic young couple, Alexander the Last illuminates the challenges of monogamy amidst myriad sexual and creative temptations. (Official)
- Co-Produced by Noah Baumbach
- The Baumbach name: "Credits for Swanberg's 'Alexander the Last' (2009) list 'Squid and the Whale' writer-director Noah Baumbach as producer. 'His name attached to that project really meant something... it led to external industry recognition that I existed,' Swanberg said. Baumbach's 'brand,' in Swanberg's words, 'was going to legitimize my brand, and (distributor) IFC's brand. I don't know how Noah felt about that, but...' Some have speculated that Baumbach's feelings came through in a later Baumbach film 'While We're Young,' which featured Adam Driver as a wily young filmmaker leeching off the experience provided by the documentarian played by Ben Stiller."
"For his latest feature, 'Alexander the Last', Swanberg shot with a crew of two - himself and a sound person - using mostly available light and a Panasonic HVX200 with only two P2 cards for capture."
